Slush is the World’s leading startup event. The main event is arranged annually in Helsinki with satellite productions happening around the world. Slush and Sun Effects have had a symbiotic relationship since the beginning, and all of the visuality of the events have come from the pens and mouses of the designers at Sun Effects.
I was involved in the Helsinki production in the years 2015 – 2019, first as a technician, and later as a designer. I have designed the lighting on Central Stage (2017), Founder Stage (2018) and Evergreen Stage (2018), as well as a whole bunch of smaller sites and venues. I also worked on the 2017 Slush Tokyo production as a design supervisor, and have operated the after parties on Central Stage (2017) and Founder Stage (2018, 2019).
My biggest involvement in the design of Slush happened during the 2018 production, when i acted as the main lighting and technical designer of Hall 7, hosting two of the three main stages in the event. We formed the hall 7 design team together with set designer Petri Tuhkanen and video mapping designer Mikko Kunnari. The 2018 Founder Stage was the biggest single projection mapped set element in Northern Europe to it’s date. The set was 60 meters wide, and it was projection mapped with over 200 000 ANSI lumens of projectors. The lighting on this stage was actually rather simplistic, as we wanted to give space for the projections.
